HIGH-CALIBRE PROGRAMME OF WORKSHOPS, LECTURES AND PRESENTATIONS IN THE CENTRE OF WISMAR

Following previous events in Hamburg in 2015 and in Hildesheim in 2017, this year the third Lichtcampus took place at Wismar University of Applied Sciences from 20 to 27 March 2019. Students and teaching staff from a wide range of lighting disciplines met with experts from the lighting and electrical industries, researchers, artists, designers, engineers, technicians, media and digitisation experts as well as others interested in light-related disciplines.

Similar to the previous events, this year’s Lichtcampus was supported by prestigious companies in the lighting industry, including WE-EF. Under the banner “innovation through light”, an interdisciplinary and cross-university network was established with lectures, workshops, projects, productions and exhibitions. In view of the increasing demand for environmentally-friendly solutions, social challenges and the desire for sustainable development, the participants concerned themselves with the role of light as an important driver of social innovation.

“Light is a fascinating subject that is becoming increasingly important. Science and research, art and design, architecture and technology need transdisciplinary platforms such as Lichtcampus in order to explore the potential of light in the 21st century,” Lichtcampus organisers Bettina Pelz and Prof. Thomas Römhild said when taking stock of the extremely successful Lichtcampus 2019 with participants from around 20 countries. For the first time, the results were presented at selected locations in Wismar city centre. For example, the town hall, Wasserkunst, St. Mary’s church tower, St. George’s Church, the world heritage house, Schabbelhaus, Zeughaus and St. Nicholas’ Church all became temporary exhibition venues.

The final conference of the EU-funded “Dynamic Light” project on 26 and 27 March 2019, with Wismar University of Applied Sciences as the lead partner and the German lighting association LiTG as project partner, marked the end of the high-calibre Lichtcampus week. Forward-looking, low-energy, user-defined, high-quality urban and street lighting was also a subject of discussion here.
