WE-EF Becomes an Official Climate Protection Company
Just in time for the start of 2025 and its 75th anniversary, lighting manufacturer WE-EF has been admitted to the nationwide Excellence Initiative for Climate Protection Companies. This follows a demanding, multi-stage selection process conducted by an expert panel, in which WE-EF impressed with its exemplary achievements in energy and resource efficiency.
“We are delighted to join the Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e. V. association; it is a special recognition of our commitment to climate protection, energy efficiency, and sustainable technologies,” says Jochen Engmann, Head of Quality and Sustainability Management, who is responsible for WE-EF’s sustainability programs. Based on WE-EF’s climate protection strategy, these programs combine technical measures, targeted employee initiatives, and comprehensive training to sustainably reduce energy consumption and strengthen awareness of environmentally friendly behavior within the company.
Long-term thinking and action have been deeply embedded in WE-EF’s brand DNA for 75 successful years. Today, sustainability is a key part of the corporate mission at WE-EF, just as it is at its parent company, the Fagerhult Group. “WE-EF strives not only to manufacture high-quality products but also to make a positive contribution to the environment. Our focus on sustainability is reflected not only in our products but also in our entire way of doing business,” explains WE-EF CEO Thiemo Cordes. He adds: “WE-EF is committed to doing its part to help achieve internationally agreed climate goals. Measures such as the introduction of an environmental management system or the switch to green electricity are important steps in the right direction.”
Since 2009, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUV), and the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) have been recognising companies for their outstanding commitment to climate protection. Alongside WE-EF, four additional companies have joined the Excellence Initiative for Climate Protection Companies at the beginning of the year, bringing the total membership to 72—a strong cross-industry business network where WE-EF, together with other pioneers, demonstrates how climate protection can be successfully implemented in the corporate world through innovation, collaboration, and a clear focus on CO₂ reduction.
Jörg Schmidt, Chairman of Klimaschutz-Unternehmen, emphasizes: “Our members are living up to their responsibility and, as industry pioneers, are demonstrating what is possible in corporate climate protection. At the same time, they inspire other companies to follow their lead—true to our motto: think ahead, set an example, take the lead!”
