WE-EF INNOVATIONS FOR A CONSIDERATE APPROACH TO NIGHT-TIME LIGHTING

A durable design, environmentally-friendly production and consistent recycling are important factors, but it is the actual use that is decisive for the sustainability of luminaires – their power consumption and especially the way that light has a direct impact on people and nature. With innovations from different areas of the product range, WE-EF shows how a paradigm change can be achieved with greater awareness of the way that light is used at night.

The new way of thinking about lighting looks at people’s visual needs as part of a larger, complex equilibrium in balance with both the non-visual, biological effects of light on humans as well as with the impact on the natural environment, the night sky, animals and plants.

This approach leads to changed planning processes and lighting concepts which, in turn, make new demands on technologies and luminaires. WE-EF is therefore presenting a whole host of innovative ideas and approaches for night sensitive lighting for the conscious use of light at night – from “wild-light”, the concept for greater environmental compatibility with adaptive colour temperature for the lighting, to improved control options, special light shields for street and area lighting luminaires and “Eco Step Dim Motion” intelligent control for bollards.

“Wild-Light”: ecologically compatible thanks to adaptive colour temperature

WE-EF has developed the concept of “wild-light” to reconcile the demands on nature conservation and the requirements of human users – an integrated system of adaptive lighting technology, sensors and connectivity.

Flexible connection solution

Tomorrow’s smart cities are being planned and built today. This is why WE-EF is offering “R2C – Ready to Connect” street and area lighting luminaires with Zhaga Book 18 interfaces that can be upgraded to intelligent luminaires – ex-works or at a later point in time, thanks to a new cover for the VFL500 series.

Light shields: for a dark sky without stray light

The two light shields developed by WE-EF are elements integrated into the optics of existing luminaires as precise tools to meet strict dark sky requirements. They are available as optical accessories for the asymmetric [R65] and [A60] lens optics of the VFL500, PFL500 and RFL500 street and area lighting luminaires.

The two light shields that have been developed by WE-EF are integrated in the optics of existing luminaires as precise tools to meet strict dark sky requirements. The uplight shields reduce the amount of stray light emitted upwards, while the backlight shields reduce the stray light escaping from behind towards the pole.

Eco Step Dim® Motion for bollards

Intelligent light senses when it is needed: WE-EF’s bollards are now also available with Eco Step Dim® Motion sensor technology. The principle of this control system is in line with WE-EF street and area lighting luminaires. Triggered by the signal from an infrared motion sensor, the luminaire automatically dims up from a programmed reduced lighting level to 100% – and back down again when there is no-one nearby. This enables optimum visual conditions for the users to be combined with the greatest possible protection of the environment. The technology is housed in a compact box mounted in the bollard housing, where it is protected from vandalism.
