Munich Light Week 2019

From 31 October to 8 November 2019, Munich Light Week celebrated its fifth anniversary. With more than 60 items on the programme, the Light Week was more extensive and more varied than ever before.

Around 3,000 people visited this year’s event, which offered information and a whole host of things to see and do in different locations all over Munich. With its mix of guided tours, sightseeing, cultural events, lectures, workshops, art exhibitions and get-togethers in museums, churches, cinemas, outdoor areas, bars and shops, the event offers a varied programme on every aspect of light.

“In our fifth year, Munich Light Week has made a decisive leap forward,” said Agnes Hey, organiser of the Light Week and managing director of Richard Pflaum publishing house. “Thanks to a balanced programme for experts and interested members of the public, together with our partners we have succeeded in making the Light Week a firm date in the Munich calendar of events and in the lighting industry.”

On the evening of Friday, 8 November, the end of the event was celebrated with a closing gala and the awarding of the “Luxi” Light Prize in the Great Festival Hall of the Augustiner Cellar in Munich. The competition was initiated by the trade magazine Licht during first Light Week in 2015. It aims to promote talented students, recognise industry innovations and help good lighting design to attract more attention. WE-EF is also committed to these goals. A supporter right from the start, this year the company once again sponsored the event.

The five-member Luxi jury – consisting of Katja Strohhäker, construction director and urban planner of the state capital Munich, lighting designer Clemens Tropp, owner of Tropp Lighting Design, Licht editor-in-chief Emre Onur, Munich product designer Florian Freihöfer and Agnes Hey – had to choose from 32 submissions. The creativity of each entry, the usefulness for scientific transfer, the promotion of scientific exchange and the benefits for people and the environment were evaluated.

Luxi is aimed at students, industry, planners, designers and the start-up scene. Birkan Gülöz and Jonas Nussbaum received the coveted trophy for their “Toca” light object in the Young Talent Award category, as did Anna Wawrzyniak for her lighting concept, “A light wagon for commuters”, and Tobias Trübenbacher for “Ignis” in the category of lighting technology. The innovation prize was awarded to guttenberger+lichttechnik GmbH, HT Group for the “HT Cover Healing Light”, and the start-up prize went to “Model F” by Luke Roberts GmbH. Congratulations to all winners!
