Light as a design element

In Alingsås, Sweden, northeast of Gothenburg, light becomes an experience. From 2 October to 1 November 2026, creative lighting installations transform the city’s public spaces as part of Lights in Alingsås. Students work alongside experienced lighting designers to develop creative lighting concepts and bring their ideas to life on site. Light can do much more than simply make spaces visible. It can highlight structures, shift perspectives, create moods and allow familiar places to be experienced in entirely new ways. This creative potential lies at the heart of Lights in Alingsås. Architecture and its surroundings become a stage for light and colour. The resulting installations demonstrate how thoughtfully designed lighting can change the perception of a place and create unique atmospheres.

Bringing lighting ideas to life together

WE-EF supported the event with FLC210 projectors and FLC210-CC colour changers. The luminaires were used within the installations, helping students and lighting designers bring their creative concepts to life. The interplay of light, colour, architecture and the surrounding environment opens up a wide range of possibilities for reinterpreting spaces and creating distinctive lighting experiences. A special thank you goes to lighting designer Stephan Horn, whose creativity and dedication played an important role in bringing the installations to life, as well as to the participating students, who contributed their ideas, perspectives and enthusiasm for light.
