Precise and purposeful lighting

WE-EF’s advanced optical systems ensure light is directed only where needed, minimising waste and reducing light pollution through dark-sky optics and targeted illumination.

Smart energy management

Integrated control systems like Zhaga, NEMA, and CityGrid enable intelligent operation, ensuring luminaires are used only when necessary, optimising energy consumption for sustainable efficiency.

Eco-friendly color temperatures

With reduced blue light in the spectrum and the innovative "Wild-Light" technology for dual-color temperatures, WE-EF prioritises both human well-being and the protection of light-sensitive ecosystems.

Case Study: Penguin Parade on Phillip Island

Providing gentle illumination for penguins on parade

This project at Phillip Island focuses on creating wildlife-friendly lighting for penguins and migratory birds. Amber LEDs protect Little Penguins by eliminating blue light, while controlled illumination minimises light spill and environmental impact. The design also ensures durability, with coastal protection for long-lasting performance in marine conditions.

The Lighting Brief

The proximity to the ocean and the architectural design demanded a thoughtful selection of luminaires, balancing durability with high-quality light performance. One key challenge was meeting the high illuminance requirements for the pool while ensuring the lighting could be dimmed to minimise its impact on nearby residences. A coordinated 3000 K color temperature was chosen to enhance the natural appearance of timber elements, seamlessly integrating with the overall design. Circular and flexible luminaires were utilised to maintain harmony with the architectural forms, complemented by a comprehensive lighting control system to optimise functionality and energy efficiency.

WE-EF Solution

The lighting solution for Scarborough Beach Pool was designed to meet the unique challenges of a coastal environment while enhancing the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the space. The luminaires were carefully selected for their ability to provide precise illumination, ensuring safety and comfort in all areas, from pathways to the pool itself. A coordinated warm light color improved the visual integration with the architectural design, highlighting natural materials and forms. Integrated control systems allowed for energy-saving features such as daylight harvesting and motion detection, optimising efficiency and sustainability throughout the facility.

Products

All luminaires featured WE-EF’s 5CE+ corrosion protection and were pre-configured for advanced digital lighting control systems. This ensured energy efficiency through daylight harvesting, motion detection, and programmable settings. The innovative design received recognition at the IESANZ Lighting Design Awards for its sustainability and functionality.

More Safety with layered lighting
Image

Improve perceived safety through layers of light

Historically, brighter light was thought to enhance safety, but modern approaches show this isn’t the case. Spaces with warmer color temperatures and consistent, layered lighting—using multiple light sources and accounting for reflective surfaces—create a safer and more comfortable environment for everyone.

Eco Step Dim: lighting with motion detection

Energy efficiency with Eco Step Dim®

Eco Step Dim® is the only solution with direction sensing, enabling on-demand dimming both up and down. This optimises light levels and saves electricity during low traffic periods. As a versatile accessory for any DALI-capable luminaire, it brings precise, responsive control to enhance sophisticated projects.

IOS® LED optics

Bridges require precise lighting to avoid glare affecting traffic and wildlife. WE-EF’s IOS® system ensures full cut-off (ULOR = 0%), meaning no upward light output, minimising light pollution while precisely directing downward light. Optimised shielding and accessories ensure targeted, efficient illumination without unwanted spill.

OLC® One LED Concept

WE-EF's LED lens systems use a multi-layer principle, where each LED creates layers for uniform, efficient illumination. This system ensures strict light control, minimises light pollution, and allows for easy modular LED replacement. OLC® technology provides a uniform, energy-saving lighting solution, particularly for street and area lighting, balancing safety, visual comfort and energy efficiency.
