Effective lighting for a beachside resort
The Vietnamese Arena Cam Ranh Resort is a getaway holiday destination located in Bai Dai. The unique architectural style is inspired by the bird’s nest shape reflected in the four-curved buildings. The design derived from the Feng Shui elements, Earth-Water-Fire-Air, where all the apartments are facing the sea to invite positive energy while the four buildings exemplify Sand-Sea-Light-Wind.
The ever-developing area of Khánh Hòa (southern coastal province) follows the contemporary design adopting an eco-friendly approach using traditional Vietnamese local materials and sustainable construction. For this reason, Cara Lighting Solutions selected WE-EF products – RMT320 post top, MRY224 bollard and FLC301 projector to illuminate this mega compound. The designer has requested 5CE+Primer (anti-corrosion treatment with added durability primer) for all luminaires, an ideal choice for extra corrosion protection suited for a seaside installation.
The primary focus for this project was safety illumination, natural landscape ambience and energy saving. Special attention has been given to the specification process to ensure lumen output, light distribution and colour temperature are tailored for the application – be it a walkway, ramp, car park or elevation change, customers can navigate any of these areas safely after dark. In particular, in high-traffic areas around the arena where MRY224 [S60] side throw optic were chosen to uniformly light the circular pathway.
Cara Lighting Solutions has been very meticulous in the landscape area with the vision of creating an enchanted ambience after dark without overlighting or glare. FLC301 was chosen for the task, not just for its modern and compact design that blends seamlessly into the nature setting but also for its performance. Eight hundred FLC301, 1 LED, 6-Watt projectors were used throughout the project for accent lighting and to create a moonlight effect.
Along the beach walk, RMT320 [R65] Rectangular side throw and [P65] Pedestrian lane optics smoothly illuminate the walkway, directing light only where it is needed at just the right level with full cut-off emitting no light horizontally above a 90-degree angle. Sustainability has been at the forefront of this project; the objective is to minimise the ecological impact, specifying dark sky complaint products where possible. Most importantly, project light only where it is necessary and with a purpose.
