Sustainability & Planet

Championing a circular economy, climate neutrality, and the protection of the night –
from raw material to finished light.

Icon for WE-EF's sustainability concept: three stylised leaf pairs with dots, symbolising growth, circularity, and the People & Planet strategy.

When we consider the protection of the planet, we champion a circular economy to achieve climate neutrality through energy efficiency and emission reduction. That commitment runs through every stage of what we do — from the materials we choose, to the way we design, to the intelligence built into the light itself. The importance we place on mitigating light pollution is evident throughout: in our thoughtful design and engineering process, in dedicated dark sky solutions, and in products created with the protection of wildlife in mind.

Responsible from the raw material up

Our environmental responsibility starts before a single luminaire takes shape — with sustainable and circular material sourcing, recycled aluminium, and a high degree of in-house vertical integration that keeps us accountable for our own supply chain. We measure what we manage: Life Cycle Assessments, science-based CO₂ reduction targets, and public sustainability reporting keep our progress honest, while a dedicated waste reduction strategy and sustainable packaging cut impact at every step.

Our net zero strategy

Built to last, designed to be reborn

A modular design philosophy sits at the heart of every product — built for durability and repairability, so nothing is replaced before it needs to be. That same thinking drives extended product lifetimes and a circular economy approach, where components can be adapted, upgraded or renewed rather than discarded. Every product's real environmental footprint is disclosed through Environmental Product Declarations, and designed to comply with eco-design directives from the outset.

Light, only where and when it's needed

The most sustainable light is the light you don't need to use. Our controls and connectivity technology — including Eco Step Dim and adaptive, real-time demand-based lighting — ensures energy is never spent lighting an empty street. That same intelligence protects the night itself: our dark sky solutions reduce light pollution at the source, and our Wild-Light concepts are engineered specifically to protect nocturnal wildlife and biodiversity.
