Tiffany & Co.'s 5th Avenue Flagship, New York

Lighting a jewelry box in Tiffany blue

Perhaps one of the most iconic stores on 5th Avenue in New York City, Tiffany & Co’s flagship building recently underwent its first full-scale renovation since its opening in 1940. As part of the renovation, led by architecture studio OMA, a three-story glass structure was added to the rooftop, serving as a gallery and terraced event space. Tillotson Design Associates led the lighting design solution, creating a lantern-like effect at night on the glass curtain of the rooftop addition.

Solution

Surrounding the terrace, WE-EF’s ETC330-FS CC inground luminaires, were selected for their broad choice of light colors. With RGBW color mixing, the luminaires were tuned to the trademark Tiffany Blue, painting the terrace roof in an elegant and instantly recognizable hue. Corrosion protection and factory sealing, paired with stable housings and outer lenses, ensure the ETC330’s robustness and longevity. Additionally, WE-EF’s FLC220 CC floodlights were incorporated into the design for uniform façade lighting in the Tiffany Blue. A narrow-beam light distribution directs the light along the framework of the glass.
