THE SCHMUCKE WITWE LED LIGHTING HIGHLIGHTS A SMALL BOUTIQUE HOTEL IN BISPINGEN

Since the opening of the Schmucke Witwe hotel in May 2015, tourists visiting the holiday destination of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park now have a wider choice when it comes to accommodation. The Schmucke Witwe boutique hotel offers eight rooms, each with exquisite attention to detail, a stylish café and a small shop.

The architecture of the hotel can be characterised as typical lower Saxony style, with half-timbered frame and brick walls. However, the construction is not as old as it might appear. The hotel is a new construction in the style of its predecessor, the historic Pfarr-Witwenhaus, a former vicarage. The architects have skilfully combined the traditional lower Saxony style with modern building standards, making the Schmucke Witwe state-of-the-art in terms of energy balance and building technology.

That same state-of-the-art approach was also applied to the hotel’s exterior lighting. WE-EF ETC120-GB LED gimbal inground luminaires with symmetric [EE] narrow beam light distribution, illuminate the building’s facade as well as the underside of the roof overhang. The gimbal LED luminaires are precision-directed on the facade between the windows to prevent glare or stray light emissions.

With a 6-watt connected load, the inground uplights generate exactly the right illuminance. The living wooden structure of the stud frame and the texture of the brick infill are highlighted to great effect. The warm-white LED light (3000 K) brings out the natural red, orange and brown tones of the building materials.

The outdoor facilities and paths around the hotel are illuminated with ASP534 LED post top luminaires. Like the hotel’s architecture, the classic design of the luminaire conveys a sense of combined traditional values and modern functionality. The [S65] lenses direct the light towards the thoroughfares, but only in the lower half-space, avoiding any unnecessary light emissions. As a final lighting accent, a single ETC130-GB LED gimbal inground luminaire directs light to highlight the crown of the large oak tree at the front of the hotel.
