NEW PATHWAY LIGHTING FOR BONDI PARK, WHICH ADJOINS AUSTRALIA’S FAMOUS BONDI BEACH
Approximately seven kilometres to the east of Sydney city centre, Bondi Beach is one of Australia’s most famous beaches and one of the world’s best-known surf spots. The bay, with its fine sand and spectacular waves, is accessed through Bondi Park. The pathways through the green area between the promenade and Campbell Parade, a boulevard running parallel to the coast, are now illuminated with luminaires from WE-EF.
The Council of the Sydney district of Waverly is responsible for maintaining and operating Bondi Park. Waverley council commissioned the lighting and electrical engineers from Lighting, Art + Science (LAS) to develop a new lighting solution. Maria Albuquerque from LAS says: “The park was previously extensively illuminated by very high luminaires. We decided to use lower poles and to precisely illuminate the pathways. This ensures good visibility in the circulation areas, facilitates orientation in the park and prevents unnecessary scattered light.”
Waverley City Council expressly requested luminaires with a round shape and a modern design for the park. It chose the WE-EF RMT320 street and area lighting luminaires from the solutions presented. These luminaires boast precise beam distribution and illuminate the paths without glare and in conformity with standards. Furthermore, the special WE-EF 5CE system guarantees long-term reliable corrosion protection and investment security – an important factor in this seaside location.
WE-EF sales partner Light Culture supplied the RMT320 luminaires with beam distributions precisely tailored to the path geometries. This enables the different lighting tasks to be precisely fulfilled by luminaires with a consistent design. The LED luminaires have maximum power consumption of 15 watts and easily fulfil the requirements of the Australian lighting standard AS1158.3.1 for category P2 paths.
