Ecologically compatible lighting solutions for streets, paths and open spaces

Contemporary lighting solutions for outdoor areas respect the dark, and strive for a balance between the needs of people as users of light and consideration of the climate, flora and fauna. The new Wild-Light lighting technology for WE-EF street and area lighting luminaires meets these requirements with adaptive light for streets, paths and open spaces – enabling not just the brightness level, but also the colour temperature to be varied.

People who use streets, paths or open spaces in the dark want to feel safe and have good visual orientation. Paths or destinations, such as car parks or bus stops, should be visible from afar and therefore continuously illuminated at night, as laid down in the relevant standards. How can such requirements be reconciled with protection of the environment, for example in or near nature reserves and similar sensitive areas? WE-EF’s answer is Wild-Light. This lighting technology uses the scope for adaptive light specified in the relevant standards, not just to graduate the illuminance level, but also to vary the colour temperature – a factor that is particularly important for wildlife.

The principle: one luminaire, two light colours

From a scientific perspective, extremely warm-coloured light with a minimised blue component is particularly kind to nature and wildlife. However, this light does not render colours and contrasts as well as warm white light with 3000 K. Wild-Light solves this dilemma by integrating adaptive lighting technology, sensors and connectivity. For this, LED modules in two different colour temperatures are combined in suitable luminaires, such as the CFT, RFL and VFL pole luminaire series – the more nature-friendly colour temperature of 2200 K and warm white with 3000 K. Wild-Light can be combined with all OLC® light distributions.

Timer or motion sensor control

The two-colour channels are supplied by separate DALI ballasts. In the variant “Wild-Light Advanced” both colour temperatures are independently time-controlled via WE-EF’s Eco Step Dim® Advance control system. “Wild-Light Motion” is based on motion detection – the 2200 K stays on throughout the night. The 3000 K is switched on via a motion detector, for example, Eco Step Dim® Motion. WE-EF luminaires with an appropriate Zhaga “Book 18” socket can be fitted with sensors; for other luminaires, a separate motion box houses the additional components. Wild-Light from WE-EF is a technology that minimises the negative impact on the environment, saves energy and offers users convenience and safety. It is based on proven components and offers the quality, reliability and durability that the WE-EF brand stands for as an all-round sustainable concept.
