Attractive promenade
Lauterbach is a district of the “White Town” of Potbus on the Baltic Sea Island of Rügen. The unofficial title is derived from the white-painted houses of the Rügen royal residence. The small community at the Bay of Greifswald has around 500 residents. The harbour is a popular destination for day trippers and was recently upgraded as part of a comprehensive redevelopment project. WE-EF supplied a lighting concept for it that meets the high safety standards and turns the waterfront promenade into a shining attraction.
The peaceful district of Lauterbach welcomes guests with its own harbour and a marina. From there, ferries cross to Baabe or the nature reserve island of Vilm. The harbour was upgraded with the aim of making it more attractive to tourists. One of the challenges was to achieve a constant illuminance of at least 5 lx for the lighting on the edge of the quay. In addition, the number of pole luminaires was to be reduced to a minimum.
Safe quay edge, homogeneous promenade lighting
The lighting was realised with high-performance WE-EF RFL540-SE LED Street and area lighting luminaires. Eight luminaires with a height of up to eight metres are sufficient to evenly illuminate the entire promenade – with illuminance of more than 10 lx. To achieve this level, seven of the eight RFL LED luminaires with a connected wattage of 144 W are positioned opposite the quay edge, and illuminate the walkway with their asymmetrical forward throw wide beam [R65] distribution. Where the promenade widens, a double-arm RFL LED luminaire was installed to illuminate the area on both sides. The two luminaires are each fitted with 72 W LEDs and produce asymmetrical side throw [S65] distribution.
As the edge of the quay needs to be seen, a dimming function was not integrated. A photocell and a time switch are a highly efficient solution for switching the exterior lighting on and off.
Protection from salt and water
Wooden poles with white tips mark the end of the quay. Due to shipping traffic, two metres was the maximum mounting height. The two WE-EF ZFT430 LED luminaires with asymmetric forward throw, wide beam [R65] distribution meet these requirements. With their clean-cut design they are harmoniously integrated in the row of wooden poles.
All the luminaires emit a warm white light of 3000 K, and thanks to protection rating IP66 they perfectly withstand the challenging weather conditions. The cast aluminium housings feature the well-proven WE-EF 5CE corrosion protection, which prevents damage from salt and water. To protect them against flooding, the access doors of the poles with the drivers behind them are at a special height of 160 cm, while on the ZFTs, they are located more or less directly below the luminaire.
